DBD Meetup, Weather Forecasts, and Other Winter Classic Musings

We are beyond moved by the turnout at the Defending Big D meetup last night at Craft and Growler. From myself and the rest of the staff, we’re so glad you were able to make it and have a good time. We loved hearing your stories and getting to know some of you. You moved us with your gratitude for everything we do to build this community, and the fact that we sold a number of Jelly Strength shirts to support Brayden Jellis, the nephew of Robin and Brad Jellis (the Stars’ strength and conditioning coach) blew us away.

Thank you, everyone, for being part of this community. We’re so glad we can share this experience with all of you. We’re so humbled to be a small part of your game day experience.

WEATHER FORECAST

As we talked about last week, the forecast for the Winter Classic is hard to predict until it’s just a few days away. Luckily for us, there appears to be no rain expected on the day of the game. The temperatures have cooled off, and we’re looking at a high in the low-50s that day. It’s also expected to be cloudy, which is actually the most ideal for the experience on the ice, as sun means glare for players to contend with.

In other words, it’s shaping up to be an ideal day. Keep your fingers and toes crossed until New Years Day, because this is Texas, after all. It can change in a second, but hopefully we’re in for a perfect day.

TAILGATING

The NHL listened to hockey fans and are allowing tailgating at the Cotton Bowl. It’s at pre-paid parking lots only, though, which are lots 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, and the Parry Lot. Below is a parking map for you to reference, and parking passes can be purchased here if you don’t have them yet and want to tailgate that morning. Tailgating will begin at 9 AM.

HOW BEST TO GET TO FAIR PARK

Consider using the DART rail to get to Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl. The Fair Park Station on the green line lets you off outside of Exposition Plaza in the map above, a short walk to the Midway and the stadium. The DART trains are usually packed with fans, and it can be a little party-before-the-party. It’ll also probably get you out of the area faster after the game, as parking lots will be full.

Here’s a handy map of the DART system to help you identify the stop nearest to you and where the Fair Park Station is in relation.

HAVE FUN (RESPONSIBLY)!

If you’re going to drink, plan a sober ride – whether that’s taking DART, rideshare, or a friend that isn’t going to drink at the game. It isn’t worth a DUI or your life. We want all of our community members to still be here on January 2nd. So have ALL OF THE FUN, but make sure you do it responsibly.
