We Love You, Dallas

“Are you alright?” read the text from a concerned Canadian friend. As I stared at the screen trying to make sense of what was happening in our city, waiting to hear from friends that were downtown at the time of the tragic shooting last night, the best I could respond to that text was that physically, yes, I was ok.

But mentally we’re not ok today. The city of Dallas awakens to yet another shifted landscape, as we wipe away tears and try to make sense of more senselessness. Some will try to return to life as normal as quickly as possible, others will seek out humor, others yet will look for comfort. Whatever we need today, that’s what we should do.

Today, the Defending Big D staff will not be going about “business as usual”. It feels too inconsequential to lose ourselves in sports talk merely hours after a scary, intense, tragic situation in our city. Today, we need to feel all of our emotions. All Dallas-based staff is safe and accounted for. And for that, I am grateful.

If you feel like you need to talk to someone, please do not hesitate to reach out. The North Texas crisis hotline is 866-260-8000. Email us, Tweet us, comment here — we’re all in this together. We love you all, every one.
