Video: Dallas Stars’ First-Round Pick Julius Honka in Highlights

For your late night or early morning viewing pleasure, we present a small sampling of Julius Honka highlights, showcasing the 14th overall pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

He’s an offensive minded defenseman, and you can see that from this small sampling below. His offense comes from the point. Slap shots, wrist shots, one timers on the power play- Is that translatable at the NHL level? There’s sometime to be said for such a young man who seems to know how to get his shot to the net from out there. That’s no small thing.

What any highlight package won’t show you- what we probably actually want to know, is what happened in transition. The defensive play, the recovery of the puck, the speed with which he turns it around and starts the rush. How he handles larger guys bodying up down low… how he defense through the neutral zone…

Those are the questions. They’re not things you’re likely to find in a highlight reel.

At 18 years old and 5’11’… He may still have a little ways to go, but often times not. Not everyone is Brenden Dillon, maturing late, physically.

Either way, enjoy these moving pictures and know he’ll be in Cedar Park in 2016, potentially, and possibly on our televisions in December with the Finnish national team at the World Juniors.

Julius (It’s Yoo-lee-us, we think…) Honka…

A draft profile from earlier in the year…

And some more from 2013…

What do you think about the newest member of the Dallas Stars prospect pool? Many “puck movers” have tried before and been found lacking.
