Two days before the Stars host the marquee game of the NHL regular season at the Cotton Bowl, they also informed us of another special game one of their players will be playing in.

Tyler Seguin will be heading to the 2020 NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis on Saturday, January 25th. This is Seguin’s 6th selection to the All-Star Game in his career.

As for the rest of the roster, the Blues are taking three players, which is not uncommon for a host city. Winnipeg is the only other Central Division team to have more than one player selected, as Connor Hellebuyck (deservedly) and Mark Scheifele (40 points in 39 games) both got the nod.
Seguin was a representative for Dallas four times prior, in 2015, 2016, 2017 and in 2018. Seguin may not be lighting up the goal column like we’ve seen in the past, but he has been finding the net a lot more lately, and he is still leading the team in scoring with 32 points in 40 games despite only having a single power play goal. It’s safe to say his second half has a very good chance of being even more productive than the first 40 games have been.
There is a chance Seguin won’t be going without company from Dallas, however. Jamie Benn is one of the candidates to be voted in by the fans; however, he’ll have to win more votes than rookie phenom Cale Makar or “we have seen him in eight million nationally televised games so he must be good” Jonathan Toews, which might be a tall order. Still, Benn has been getting hot lately—how about that game against Arizona last night?—so you never know. It’s up to the fans, and guess what? You are very probably one of them, so it is up to you. Please do the right thing.

In the meantime, fans will get a chance to see Benn and the rest of the Stars get a national stage for the Winter Classic on Wednesday, so regardless of what happens with the All-Star Game, it’s going to be a fun January to be Stars fan.
