Stars Sign Miro Heiskanen to a Three-Year Entry Level Contract

To the surprise of no one, Dallas has signed Miro Heiskanen to a three-year entry level contract. Per the press release:

Heiskanen, 17, played for HIFK of the Finnish Elite League in 2016-17, compiling 10 points (5-5=10) in 37 regular season games, and three points (0-3=3) in eight playoff contests. He also represented Finland at both the 2017 U-20 World Junior Championship and the 2017 U-18 World Junior Championship.

In the U-20 World Junior Championship, he recorded one assist in six games. At the 2017 U-18 World Championship, he registered twelve points (2-10=12) in seven games as Finland captured the silver medal. Heiskanen earned best defenseman honors and was named to the tournament all-star team after leading all skaters in assists and all defensemen in points.

Which means Miro Heiskanen is officially part of the Stars’ plan to overripen prospects. Hopefully this third overall fruit from Espoo, Finland “falls” quicker than the other pieces of fruit.

Heiskanen is currently getting his legs warm at development camp. Or just warm in general.

It’s good to know the Texas heat isn’t getting to him.

It’s better to know that Heiskanen will be attending training camp, however. Jim Nill expects him to play in Finland next season. Which could be beneficial. Heiskanen is not a small player, but he’ll need time to fill out. Luckily HIFK has a conditioning coach who will have him carrying water and chopping wood. No word on if he’ll be making shurikens on a whetstone too. I jest but Harri Yrttiaho really does seem awesome.

Still, that he’s attending training camp means you can’t rule out the possibility that Nill doesn’t think nine defensemen on the roster is enough. It’s unlikely, and Nill has explicitly said so, but Heiskanen is an elite talent.
