NHL Qualifiers: Schedule, Broadcast Information for August 5th

Bust out the brooms because we saw our first sweep of a qualifying round last night. The Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Rangers 4-1 last night to take the best-of-five series in three games. They also did it with an extra squeeze of lemon juice in the wound if this play is any indication:

In other results from last night, the New York Islanders took a commanding 2-0 series lead against the Florida Panthers thanks to a 4-2 win. The Nashville Predators roared back to even their series with the Minnesota Wild after getting thumped the first game with a similarly-scored 4-2 win. Also tying their series was the Toronto Maple Leafs thanks to a 3-0 clean sheet of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Missing Mark Scheifele, the Winnipeg Jets’ defense was tested and came up wanting thanks to a 6-goal onslaught from the Calgary Flames. Calgary leads that series 2-1 and can clinch the series win tomorrow.

As for today’s slate of games, we’ll be tuning in specifically to see if the Islanders can join the Hurricanes on broom patrol in addition to the Dallas Stars round robin game this afternoon:
