This has already been one amazing week for Jim Nill and the Dallas Stars. After drafting phenom winger Valeri Nichushkin in the first round of the NHL Draft on Sunday, Nill wasted little time in significantly turning over the NHL roster while setting up the franchise for the future by trading for top center Tyler Seguin.
In addition to Seguin, the Stars also added center Rich Peverley and in a separate deal (that has still not been announced as official) the team acquired veteran center Shawn Horcoff. Suddenly, over the course of just 24 hours, the depth for the Stars up the middle has been completely rebuilt.
Losing Loui Eriksson was a steep price to pay, however, and adding Seguin and company does not address all of the needs of the Dallas Stars for the coming season and near future.
There are plenty of options for Nill and the Stars remaining, not just through free agency but through trades as well. There are no guarantees that anything more significant will happen, but it certainly feels as if this overnight rebuild isn't quite finished just yet.
Just like the draft, this will be the central hub for all discussion relating to free agency on Friday, which kicks off at 11 a.m. CT.
It's going to be a fun day, folks.
