The reports from earlier are now official. The Stars have re-signed Patrick Eaves to a one year contract.
Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed forward Patrick Eaves to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Eaves, 31, registered 27 points (14-13=27) in 47 games in his first season with Dallas in 2014-15. He led all Stars skaters last season with a plus/minus rating of +12, while he shared third on the team with a career-high six power play goals. Eaves’ goal, assist and point totals from the 2014-15 campaign are the most he has recorded since the 2006-07 season when he notched a career-high 32 points (14-18=32) while with Ottawa.
The 10-year NHL veteran has tallied 173 career points (88-85=173) in 491 regular-season NHL contests with Ottawa, Carolina, Detroit, Nashville and Dallas. Eaves has recorded 13 postseason points (6-7=13) in 67 career Stanley Cup Playoffs games including a trip to the Eastern Conference Final with Carolina in 2009.
“Patrick was a valuable part of our team last season,” said Nill. “We’re happy to have him back in the fold as he plays a number of different roles throughout the year and is a tremendous teammate.”
The 6-foot-0, 200-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario was originally selected by Ottawa in the first round (29th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft and was signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 1, 2014.
The Stars now have Eaves and goaltender Antti Niemi as their free agency haul. They haven’t signaled that they are done yet though and many big names remain out there. Stay tuned.
