NHL Draft Lottery: Dallas Stars Hoping For a Connor McDavid Miracle

The chances are small, but tonight the future of the Dallas Stars franchise could change remarkably. The 2015 NHL Draft Lottery takes place tonight and the Stars have a chance to move up to select Connor McDavid.

The way the lottery works is that the Stars can only stay where they are, move to number one, or move down one spot if somehow the Boston Bruins or Los Angeles Kings win the lottery.

As previously mentioned, the odds aren’t good. The Stars have a 2.5% chance of picking up McDavid. These are the rest of the odds courtesy of NHL.com:

But what if they do? That would be neat. If you, like me, like to live in a fantasy land where good things happen use this lottery simulator to see how long it takes you to get a Stars win: It took me five times:

The NHL has a massive night of festivities planned for the Lottery as detailed here:

In coordination with the League, the results of the NHL Draft Lottery will be revealed in a live television broadcast on CBC and TVA in Canada and on NBC in the U.S. Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET, leading up to the networks’ broadcast of Game 2 of the First Round series between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Or not.

But if you want to watch live as the Stars hopefully win the lottery you can tune in for the game two of the Rangers and Penguins series tonight.

Our site might actually break if it does happen. Can you imagine John Klingberg, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, Val Nichushkin, and Connor McDavid? I almost can visualize it. The roster implications would be huge. Jim Nill would undoubtedly be the most popular man in the NHL with a huge surplus of centers and the obvious and stated need on defense.

But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Tonight we find out if the Stars franchise alters significantly by the Stars being awarded McDavid, or, more likely, we find out officially that the Stars will pick 12th when the Draft gets here in June.
