The Stars lock up last season’s top scorer for the future.
The first big bit of business of the offseason for the Dallas Stars is official – Matt Duchene is going nowhere, as today a deal was announced to keep him in Dallas on a 4-year contract extension worth $4.5M AAV.
GM Jim Nill had already mentioned that Captain Jamie Benn and Duchene both wanted to remain in Dallas for next season, and the feeling was mutual with the club – it was just going to come down to the numbers. Well, check box number one. The deal is, at least on paper, a bargain for the veteran forward, as many had his projected numbers closer to $7M or more per year.
That leaves less that $500,000 cap space for the Stars to use this off season, so we’ll have to wait and see what other tricks Nill has up his sleeves.
How does this affect your outlook on the Stars for next season? And what domino is going to fall next? Sound off in the comments.
