Kari Lehtonen Gives Up Two Soft Goals, Pulled Early Against Minnesota Wild

These are troubling times in the kingdom. Early in the first period Dallas Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen was pulled against the Minnesota Wild after giving up two soft goals from less-than-threatening angles on only four shots.

The first was scored by Jared Spurgeon. He was essentially in the Stars zone alone and fired wrist shot from outside the scoring chance area over Lehtonen’s glove.

The second goal wasn’t a whole lot different. The only difference was Charlie Coyle came down the left wing side instead of the right wing side before finding space high glove. He went against the grain and Lehtonen simply wasn’t ready for it.

Lindy Ruff saw enough and brought out the hook. Antti Niemi is in net now. The Stars have plenty of time to turn it around, but they surely hoped for a better start against a division rival.
