Dallas Stars, USA Hockey Legend Mike Modano To Be Inducted Into Hockey Hall of Fame

The highest scoring American-born hockey player in the NHL is a first-ballot hall of famer.

Mike Modano holds nearly every scoring record in Dallas Stars franchise history. He was the face of the franchise for many years, and helped to spread the game of hockey in the state of Texas. He is the highest scoring American-born player to play in the National Hockey League to date.

The year after he hung up the skates for good, his jersey to never flap down Dallas ice again, he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.

The next year, he rejoined the Dallas Stars hockey club family in the front office.

Then, after a lockout pushed back the inevitable, the Dallas Stars retired his iconic #9 jersey to the rafters in one of the best number retirement ceremonies in March this year.

Rightfully earned accolades since he retired from the game continued today with the announcement that the former #1 overall draft pick is a first-ballot Hockey Hall of Fame nominee. The induction ceremony will take place the weekend of November 14-November 17 in Toronto.

He's joined in this year's class by Rob Blake, Pat Burns (who gets the nod posthumously), Peter Forsberg, Dominik Hasek, and Bill McCreary.

That's some heady company, but really Modano's inclusion into the Hockey Hall of Fame was a no-brainer. He deserves every bit of recognition he is getting for the impact he had on the game of hockey and the Dallas Stars franchise that we all hold near and dear.
