Dallas Stars Select Fredrik Karlstrom 90th Overall

With their first pick on day two of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft the Dallas Stars went off the board a little bit, picking an intriguing Swedish forward Fredrik Karlstrom at 90th overall.

He’s big, at 6’2″ and about 185 pounds, and scouting reports on him like his skating top-speed, aggression, and a rapidly-developing ability to make plays with the puck. He certainly fits the same mold of forwards that the Stars have targeted in the draft lately.

Karlstrom went a little bit higher than he was ranked, but there have been some mentions of him flying under the radar this season. He played two games in the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s second highest pro league, and had a huge showing in Sweden’s U20 playoffs.

We’ll dig deeper into this pick in the coming days, but at the moment, it looks like the Stars swung bit on a player that’s high risk, but seems to have the potential for some very high reward.
