Noesen, Upshall Among Latest Dallas Roster Cuts

After their preseason loss against the Florida Panthers yesterday, the Dallas Stars have trimmed down their NHL roster further, cutting ten skaters to bring the total roster size down to 34.

The most notable cuts were Stefan Noesen and Scottie Upshall, who were in Dallas on professional try-outs. Upshall looked well in his most recent preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche, and Nosen was a “feel good story” of a Plano, Texas native trying to make his hometown team.

Other players cut were Gavin Bayreuther, Emil Djuse, Tye Felhaber, Ben Gleason, Adam Mascherin, and Riley Tufte, all of whom were loaned to the Texas Stars. The Stars also placed Tanner Kero and Dillon Heatherington on waivers — should they clear, they will also be assigned to the AHL.

None of the cuts are particularly surprising, but it’s not as many names as one might expect. Recent first round picks Ty Dellandrea and Thomas Harley are still on the roster, as well as some unexpected surprises such as Rhett Gardner. Other prospects still in Dallas include Denis Gurianov, Jason Robertson, Joel L’Esperance, Joel Kiviranta, Joel Hanley, and Jake Oettinger, among others.

There’s still plenty more cuts to go before opening night, so stay tuned.
