Dallas Stars Recall Defenseman Cameron Gaunce From The Texas Stars

The Dallas Stars announced earlier today that they had recalled defenseman Cameron Gaunce from their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars.

Gaunce has played 29 games this season with the Texas Stars and has a goal and two assists in that time. Last season he had a nine game stint with the Dallas Stars.

Both the Dallas Stars and the Texas Stars are playing tonight. The Texas Stars play at home while the Dallas Stars are on the road in St Louis. It seems unlikely that Gaunce will be playing tonight however.

The Dallas Stars had assigned Jamie Oleksiak to the Texas Stars on the 23rd December; meaning that there is an open spot available, most likely as a healthy scratch. Calling up Gaunce over Oleksiak is not necessarily a bad thing for Oleksiak. He can get significant playing time in the AHL rather than sitting in the press box in the NHL.

Heres the press release from the Dallas Stars:

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Cameron Gaunce from the Texas Stars, Dallas’ top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

Gaunce, 24, has posted three points (1-2=3) in 29 games played for Texas this season. Last season, he split his time between Dallas and Texas. With Dallas, he appeared in nine games recording a +1 plus/minus rating and seven penalty minutes. With Texas, he recorded 18 points (3-15=18) in 65 regular season games. In 18 playoff contests, he recorded four points (0-4=4), including three assists in the Calder Cup Final series-clinching victory.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound native of Sudbury, Ontario was selected by Colorado in the second round (50th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft. He was acquired by Dallas from Colorado in exchange for Tomas Vincour on April 2, 2013.
