The Dallas Stars have recalled forward Curtis McKenzie from the Texas Stars of the AHL on an emergency basis.
McKenzie, who has played just two games in Dallas this season after being injured at the hands of Nikita Nesterov early in the year,
Emergency recalls, which do no count against the four-call-up limit, are allowed when a team is not able to field 12 healthy forwards, six healthy defensemen or two healthy goalies. Given that the Stars had 12 forwards on Sunday in Anaheim, this means today’s news about Brett Ritchie being unavailable for the final two games doesn’t impact an emergency recall.
But the fact that Patrick Eaves appeared to leave Sunday’s game early would. Eaves played just one shift in the third period of Sunday’s loss to the Anaheim Ducks – a 15-second stint about two and a half minutes into the period. There is no official word on if he is the injured player, but every other forward took at least one shift in the final five minutes.

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has recalled forward Curtis McKenzie from the Texas Stars, Dallas’ top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
McKenzie, 25, has appeared in two games with Dallas this season, recording one hit and one shot on goal. The forward has registered 51 points (21-30=51) in 58 AHL games this season with Texas. McKenzie currently paces Texas in goals (21) and penalty minutes (116), while he ranks second in points (51), fifth in assists (30) and fifth in plus/minus rating (+10).
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Golden, B.C. was selected by Dallas in the sixth round (159th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.
