Dallas Stars Reassign Jason Dickinson to AHL as Jason Spezza, Patrick Eaves Return to Practice

After a whirlwind 24 hours, the Dallas Stars have reassigned rookie forward Jason Dickinson to the Texas Stars of the AHL.

Dickinson was an emergency recall, meaning he could only stay in the NHL as long as the Stars were unable to field 12 healthy forwards. The reassignment therefore means someone is getting healthy, though whether that person is Jason Spezza (illness), Mattias Janmark (upper body) or even potentially Patrick Eaves (mid-body) is still up in the air. Both Spezza and Eaves started practice this morning with their teammates.

The return means it was a very quick NHL debut for Dickinson, who learned he was called up on Thursday morning and made the quick trip to Dallas, where he played in his first NHL game that night (and scoring the game’s opening goal while at it). That left him with a very nice souvenir to take back to Austin with him.

It also left us with a treasure trove of extremely happy Dickinson pictures so that when he comes up in a more permanent fashion, we’re ready.

The full release from the team is below:

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has reassigned center Jason Dickinson to the Texas Stars, Dallas’ top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Dickinson, 20, made his NHL debut last night against Colorado and scored a goal on his first career shot on net. With Texas, he has posted 50 points (20-30=50) in 69 games played. In his first full year of professional hockey, his 50 points are sixth among AHL rookies and are third overall on Texas. His three shorthanded goals are tied for fourth in the AHL and his five-game goal streak (5-2=7) from Feb. 17 – 27 is the second-longest streak for an AHL rookie this season.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Georgetown, Ontario was selected by Dallas in the first round (29th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
