Dallas Stars Prospect Update: NCAA Season Get Underway, John Nyberg Scores Hat Trick In Swedish Junior Game

North America Juniors

OHL

Remi Elie played two games this week for the Belleville Bulls, both games were against teams with other Dallas Stars prospects on them. The first was a 4-1 victory against the Plymouth Whalers in which Elie went pointless. The second was a 8-5 win against the Niagara IceDogs. Elie had a goal and an assist in the win. Highlights of the game can be found here.

Jason Dickinson only played a single game this week, a 3-2OT win against the North Bay Battalion. Dickinson would assist on the opening goal just over half way through the second period. Of the five goals scored in the game, four would come on the powerplay. Highlights of the game can be found here.

The Niagara IceDogs played three games this week, playing the Ottawa 67s, Belleville Bulls and Kingston Frontenacs. Goaltender Brent Moran would play two of the three, losing both games. Despite having not backstopped his team to victory yet it’s not completely dark for Moran. He has been the reason why the IceDogs were anywhere near potentially winning; making some big and impressive saves.

Moran saved 24 shots out of 28 in a 4-3 loss to the Ottawa 67s, a 0.857SVS%. In the IceDogs 1-0 loss to the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday he saved 28 of the 29 shots he faced, a 0.966SVS%.

The Dallas Stars also have Aaron Haydon playing with the Niagara IceDogs. He finished the week with a single assist. He had his assist in the 8-5 loss to the Belleville Bulls on Saturday.

Highlights of the Niagara-Ottawa game can be found here. Highlights of Niagara-Belleville can be found here. Niagara is the only team in the OHL that has yet to register a win or a point. They’ve played six games.

Alex Peters and the Plymouth Whalers played three games this week and Peters finished with two points. He had an assist in the Whalers 5-3 loss to the Oshawa Generals on Friday. He assisted on the opening goal 51 seconds into the second period. He was not on the ice for any of the five goals scored against them. Highlights of the game can be found here.

Alex Peters would also register an assist in the Whalers 8-4 win against the Peterborough Petes. He had a secondary assist on their fifth goal and finished an even plus minus.

The Windsor Spitfires played two games this week in which Patrick Sanvido registered no points. He is on the top defensive pairing for the Spitfires. They would win their first game, against the Petes, 5-4 in OT and would lose on Saturday against the Sarnia Sting 9-2.

WHL

Unusually Brett Pollock and the Edmonton Oil Kings did not play a game this week.

Cole Ully had his point streak broken at six games as he went pointless through the Kamloops Blazers two games this week. The Blazers won their first game, 3-1, and Ully finished with a +2. They would lose on Saturday to the Everett Silvertips 5-1 and Ully would finished with a -2. Ully is the fifth top scorer in the WHL.

QMJHL

Philippe Desrosiers had a disastrous week in the QMJHL. In a 5-3 loss he finished with a 0.642SVS% after letting in five goals on just 14 shots. He would then be injured in training and miss the next game. Overall, not a great week.

NCAA

The University of Maine got its season underway with a 3-1 loss to Alaska Anchorage on Friday. Devin Shore would go pointless in the contest. They would that up with another loss on Saturday to Alaska Fairbanks, a 5-2 loss. Devin Shore would score a goal.

Mike Prapavessis would play his first weekend of regular season NCAA hockey for the RPI Engineers. He would go pointless in a 3-2 win against Notre Dame and in their 3-0 loss to Minnesota. He has been playing on the Engineers second defensive pairing.

USHL

Matej Paulovic had back to back games against the Lincoln Stars this week in the USHL and finished pointless in both contests. The Muskegon Lumberjacks would split the two games.

Europe

Sweden

Ludwig Bystrom has finally managed to get some decent ice time in the SHL after his week long loan to the Allsvenska. He played two games this week, both losses, and finished with a single assist. He averaged just under 20 minutes per game and his assist came during a 4-1 loss to Orebro.

Rogle played two games this week, winning one and losing the other. Niklas Hansson and Emil Molin both assist on the same goal in Rogle’s 3-2 loss to Oskarshamn. They would go pointless in Rogle’s 3-0 loss to Asploven. They would average around 19 minutes and 12 minutes per game respectively.

John Nyberg had a hat trick, all powerplay goals, in Frolunda J20’s 6-4 win against Tingsryds on Tuesday. He played the game on their top defensive pairing. He went pointless in their second game of the week, a 5-4 loss to HV71. He is joint highest scoring defenseman for Frolunda J20.

Finland

Esa Lindell played three games this week for Assat in the Liiga. He went pointless through all three but averaged just under 23 minutes on ice per game. His usual defensive partner, Garrett Stafford, hasn’t played this week for Assat.

Aleksi Makela averaged around 12 minutes per game in the two games he played this week with Ilves. He did have two assists in their 4-0 win over the Pelicans on Wednesday. He was also assessed a 10 minute major penalty at the end of the game, along with an opposing player for what is translated as ‘Penalty Behavior’ (käytösrangaistus)

Miro Karjalainen did not play a game this week in the Finnish juniors. I’m not sure why he’s been out of action for the past two weeks.

Russia

Dmitry Sinitsyn played two games this week for Dynamo Balashikha. He had two assists in their 8-5 loss on Tuesday and played over 25 minutes on ice. He would go pointless and play over 21 minutes in a 3-2 loss on Thursday.
