Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Mattias Backman And Jason Dickinson Have Three Point Weeks

North American Juniors and NCAA

OHL

Remi Elie played two games with the Erie Otters this week as they advanced to the second round of the OHL playoffs. They beat the Sarnia Sting 4-1 in the opening round and advance to face the London Knights in the second round.

Remi Elie finished with a pair of points in the two games he played this week, one in each of the games he played. In game four he assisted on Taylor Raddysh’s early third period goal that would tie the game at three and send it to overtime. Highlights of the game can be found here.

The Otters advanced after a 7-0 win on Friday. Elie assisted on Connor McDavid’s shorthanded goal halfway through the third period to put them ahead 6-0. Highlights of that game can be found here.

Remi Elie has five points through five playoff games for the Erie Otters.

Jason Dickinson played three games with the Guelph Storm this week and they advanced to the second round of the OHL playoffs. They beat the Owen Sound Attack 4-1 in their series and will now face the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in round two.

Through three games Jason Dickinson finished with three points. On Wednesday he scored a goal and had an assist in the Storm’s 3-2OT win. He opened the scoring just over half way through the second period, his third goal of the playoffs. He’d also get the primary assist on Givani Smith’s OT winner. Highlights of the game can be found here.

On Saturday the Storm clinched their place in the second round in a 2-1 win. Dickinson had a single assist in the game, assist on Phil Baltisberger’s equal strength goal halfway through the second period to tie the game at one. Highlights of that game can be found here.

After the Niagara IceDog’s poor two opening games they fought back to advance to the second round of the OHL playoffs. They beat the Ottawa 67’s 4-2 in their series; they’ll face the Oshawa Generals in round two.

Aaron Haydon played four games for the Niagara IceDogs over the past week and went pointless in those games. He hasn’t registered a point in the playoffs. He’s been on the IceDogs top defensive pairing.

Brent Moran didn’t start a game for the IceDogs as Brandon Hope started all four of their games this week.

WHL

Brett Pollock only played two games this week for the Edmonton Oil Kings; they lost their series against the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-1. His season is now over.

He had a point in each of the two games he did play this week. On Tuesday Pollock had an assist in a 3-2 loss. He got his assist as Edmonton attempted to rally back from a 3-1 deficit. He helped Brandon Baddock get the game within one but they were unable to tie the game late in the third period. Highlights of that game can be found here.

On Wednesday the Oil Kings were eliminated after a 3-2 loss in double overtime. Brett Pollock had one of the goals for the Oil Kings, scoring on the powerplay just over halfway through the second period. He put the Oil Kings ahead 2-1 before the Wheat Kings were able to tie the game five minutes into the third period. Highlights of the game can be found here.

Brett Pollock finished tied in points totals for the Oil Kings in the playoffs with five points in five games. He led them in the regular season with 62 points in 70 games.

QMJHL

The Rimouski Oceanic advanced to the second round of the QMJHL playoffs, sweeping their first round opponents the Victoriaville Tigres. Philippe Desrosiers played two of the Oceanic’s games in the first round and he only played one this week.

Desrosiers played in game four on Wednesday, a 4-2 win for the Oceanic. Philippe Desrosiers faced 28 shots and made 26 saves. He had a 0.929SVS% in that game, and a 0.891SVS% over the two games he has played so far in the post season this year.

At the moment their opponents for round two have not been decided as there are still first round series going on.

USHL

Matej Paulovic played two games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks this week, finishing with a single assist. He assisted on an equal strength goal during a 5-1 loss to the Youngstown Phantoms. Paulovic has 47 points in 50 games this season.

Europe

Sweden

Mattias Backman played four games for Linkoping this week and finished with three assists in those games. Linkoping however lost their semi final series 4-1 to Skelleftea.

Last Monday he had his first assist on a powerplay goal by Jacob Vrana. Linkoping lost that game 7-2. Backman played 16 minutes in that loss.

He’d add his second assist on Wednesday in a 3-2OT loss to Skelleftea. He had a primary assist on Jacob Micflikier’s powerplay goal which opened the scoring. He played 18 minutes in the loss.

On Friday he had his third assist of the post season as Linkoping beat Skelleftea 3-2 and avoided being swept. Backman only played 3 minutes minutes in this game, I believe he must have suffered an injury that kept him out of the remainder of the game.

On Sunday Backman’s point streak would be broken and Linkoping would be out of the playoffs as Skelleftea won 3-1. Backman went pointless and played 13 minutes.

With Mattias Backman now out of the SHL playoffs I think he’ll probably join the Texas Stars for the rest of their season. In the Swedish article following his trade he seemed to imply that the organisation would want him to go back to the AHL after his season in Sweden was over.

Mattias Janmark and Frolunda lost three straight games in their semi final series against Vaxjo. They play again today and need to win if they have any hope of advancing to the SHL finals.

Janmark went pointless in all three of the games that Frolunda played in the last week, in two of those games he averaged 18 minutes of ice time.

Frolunda and Vaxjo had an epic game two with the game entering triple overtime before Vaxjo was able to get the overtime winner. They played 104 minutes of hockey in the game. Mattias Janmark played nearly 35 minutes in the loss, the second highest of any Frolunda player.

Niklas Hansson was assigned to Rogle J20 for their playoff push following Rogle’s promotion to the SHL. He has played in one game so far, a 5-2 loss to Djurgarden J20 in the semi finals. Hansson had both goals for Rogle J20, scoring at equal strength and on the powerplay. His two goals in one game makes him the most productive defenseman for Rogle J20 in their entire post season.

John Nyberg went pointless in Frolunda J20’s only game this week. They won their semi final 5-1 against Linkoping and will advance to the J20 final where they’ll face Djurgarden. He appears on their top defensive pairing in the lineup sheets for the J20 games.
