Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Jason Dickinson, Guelph Storm Fall In Memorial Cup Final
How have the Dallas Stars prospects done in this past week of hockey? Defending Big D is committed to to giving you weekly updates as their seasons progress.
Memorial Cup:
The first game of the week was between the Guelph Storm and Val d-Or. The Storm would win the game 6-3 with Jason Dickinson finishing with a goal and a plus two rating. They managed to put all six of their goals past Antoine Bibeau who did not start in the third period of the game.
Jason Dickinson's goal showed his strength and skating ability as he went through all of Val d-Or to put the puck in the back of the net.
Highlights of the game can be found here.
The second game of the week involving Dallas Stars prospects was on Wednesday and saw the London Knights face off against the Guelph Storm. The Storm blew past London 7-2 on their way to securing a place in the finals of the Memorial Cup. The Knights would have the disappointment of being a host team which failed to win a single game the entire tournament.
Jason Dickinson had his best game of the tournament with a goal and two assists in the win while Gemel Smith finished pointless. Gemel Smith has not registered a single point in the entire tournament for the London Knights.
It's worth watching the highlights of this game just for some of their beautiful goals. They looked really very impressive. Highlights can be found here.
The semi final of the tournament was between the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Val d-Or. The Oil Kings would win the game in 3OT by a score of 3-2.
The final was played on Sunday afternoon and the Oil Kings would beat the Storm to clinch the Memorial Cup.
Despite the Guelph's good start it wasn't to last as they fell 6-3 in convincing fashion. Jason Dickinson went pointless and finished with a minus one rating.
Despite the loss 2014 NHL Draft prospect Robby Fabbri finished with a goal and an assist and had six points in four games for the Guelph Storm. He's a prospect who could be on the board when the Stars are drafting at number 14.
Highlights can be found here.
A few notes:
First of all Mike Heika has said that neither Mike Winther or Cody Payne will be offered entry level contracts by the Dallas Stars. Both will be able to re-enter the draft. At the time of writing Gemel Smith also needs an ELC before he re-enters the draft. I believe the deadline is in the next day or two.
Also, this is the final prospect update of the season. There are no more Dallas Stars prospects outside of the AHL who are still playing.
Make sure to watch the Texas Stars in the Western Conference Finals of the AHL as they play the Toronto Marlies. For all things Texas Stars head to 100degreehockey.
