Dallas Stars Place Defenseman Kevin Connauton on Waivers

After a string of healthy scratches stretching back to Nov. 8, defenseman Kevin Connauton has been placed on waivers by the Dallas Stars.

The news came from Elliotte Friedman on Monday morning:

Connauton has two assists in eight games this season and had eight points in 36 games as a rookie last year but hasn’t been able to earn playing time over Jamie Oleksiak or the newly recalled John Klingberg. The move could be to get him some more playing time at the AHL level, clear space for some sort of other move or just give the Stars more flexibility with the roster over the next month if he clears.

Connauton, 24, has a cap hit of $683,000 and is in the second year of a three year contract. If the plan is to send him to the Texas Stars, Dallas would need to call up another defensemen (or acquire one via other means) to carry a full roster of seven.
