Dallas Stars Place Ales Hemsky on IR, Recall Radek Faksa From AHL

The Dallas Stars have recalled rookie center Radek Faksa for the second time this season to replace an injured Ales Hemsky, who was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday with a lower-body injury.

Faksa, who continues to excel with the Texas Stars this season, played 14 games Dallas earlier this season with one goal and one assist while Patrick Eaves and Travis Moen healed up. More important, though, was that Faksa was a very solid fit in a lower line role and looked confident even when matched up against some of the NHL’s best forwards.

In 19 games in the AHL this season, Faksa has nine goals and four assists and is a plus-13.

Hemsky was injured in Tuesday’s loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets after he blocked a shot with his foot. Lindy Ruff’s initial thoughts were that it might not be too bad, but after further evaluation today, he was placed on IR. That means he will be out at least a week.

The full release on the moves is below:

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has recalled center Radek Faksa from the Texas Stars, Dallas’ top development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Faksa, 21, has appeared in 14 games for Dallas this season registering two points (1-1=2) and a +2 plus/minus rating. He scored his first career goal on Nov. 6 at Carolina against Eddie Lack. At the AHL level with Texas, he has posted 13 points (9-4=13) in 19 games played. His nine goals are fourth on the team.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Vitkov, Czech Republic was selected by Dallas in the first round (13th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Additionally, the Stars placed right wing Ales Hemsky on Injured Reserve retroactive to Dec. 29 with a lower body injury.
