Dallas Stars Daily Links: The Time Has Come

Hockey is back! What a glorious time of the year. The baseball playoffs started with a bang, hockey is back, basketball will be soon, and football is in full swing. October is a fantastic month for sports. Most importantly in these parts, however, is the fact that the Dallas Stars are making their long-awaited return to meaningful games tonight as the Arizona Coyotes make their way to the AAC to kick the season off. Recaps galore! I generally only look at the Central Division, but I’m just too pumped tonight:

  • The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens figured a regulation game wasn’t a flashy-enough season debut and took the game to extra time to settle it. John Tavares notched his first tally in his Toronto debut, and Auston Matthews avoided the GQ curse (which I just made up) to score two, including the OT winner. [NHL]
  • The Edmonton Oilers were bizarrely in Cologne, Germany, and recorded a win over the Cologne Sharks. [Edmonton Sun]
  • The rumors of the Stanley Cup hangover appear to have been greatly exaggerated as the Washington Capitals absolutely dominated the Boston Bruins to start their Cup defense strong. [NHL]
  • The Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames combined for six goals in the third period as Vancouver won the Western Canada showdown 5-2. [NHL]
  • Finally, the Anaheim Ducks put a damper on the San Jose Sharks hype train. Pierre McGuire held true to form and let you know where every single player in the game played his junior or college hockey as Anaheim downed San Jose 5-2 as well. Also, remember how Evander Kane going to the Sharks was a big storyline last year and is almost an afterthought now post-Karlsson trade? [NHL]/

There were a lot of think pieces about this yesterday, but I’ll just stick with the report straight from the Depart of Player Safety. Tom Wilson received a 20-game suspension for his illegal hit on Oskar Sundqvist in the preseason:

I can’t wait to make a little Seattle/Vancouver hockey trip someday soon:

I sincerely hope we won’t need consolation after tonight’s game, but Down Goes Brown has us covered just in case:
