Dallas Stars Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin Named to World Cup of Hockey Canada Roster

Team Canada announced their final roster for the World Cup of Hockey. Dallas Stars forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin were (not surprisingly) part of the roster. The forward group for Canada is stacked:

Patrice Bergeron
Jeff Carter
Sidney Crosby
Ryan Getzlaf
Steven Stamkos
John Tavares
Jonathan Toews
Joe Thornton
Brad Marchand
Matt Duchene
Claude Giroux

It’s likely that the Stars forwards could remain together, as a dynamic scoring duo. With the depth Canada has at center, however, it is likely that the two All-Star forwards would have a different centerman. Seguin has played at right wing before, so it’s likely they can remain on the same line.

Team Sweden announced their roster earlier today as well. John Klingberg did not make the final roster, though it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he could be one of the first called upon should injuries strike any of the puck movers on the roster. Klingberg was left off the initial roster, and one thing Team Sweden mentioned at that time was that they needed players that play a strong two-way game. Klingberg had a great season, but struggled at times in the playoffs. With so many quality defensemen to choose from, Sweden took the best they thought was their best chance to win.

So the Stars are sending five total players to the World Cup of Hockey: Benn, Seguin, Esa Lindell (Finland), Radek Faksa (Czech Republic), and Ales Hemsky (Czech Republic).
