Gameday Thread and Preview: Stars @ Jets (7:00PM CT)

Currently sitting in a Wild Card spot, the Dallas Stars have a chance to leapfrog the Winnipeg Jets for a Top 3 spot in the Central Division when the two teams square off tonight.

The Stars and Jets are more alike then you might think. Both teams left the offseason with high expectations but suffered from early setbacks — the Jets took a big hit to their defense when they traded Jacob Trouba and Dustin Byfuglien failed to report, while the Stars began the season with that terrible losing streak. But both teams have managed to right the ship, each sitting at 33 points currently.

The last time these division rivals squared off was a little less than two weeks ago, resulting in a 5-3 victory for the Stars. Dallas won two more games after that before starting their current three-game losing streak. Meanwhile the Jets responded with a three game win-streak, although that was snapped this past Saturday with a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Expect to see some high-end goaltending tonight, as the expected goaltenders, Connor Hellebuyck and Anton Khudobin, have the 2nd and 5th best SV% in the league respectively. Also keep an eye on notorious Star-killer Patrik Laine, who will probably find a way to score a goal before the game starts.
