Dallas Stars Drop Game Two At Traverse City Prospect Tournament In Overtime

The Dallas Stars had a thrilling back and forth game with the Carolina Hurricanes but ended up losing in overtime.

The Dallas Stars prospects came into the game after clinched their opening game in the dying seconds of the third period.

This time they weren't to be as lucky when they faced the Carolina Hurricanes.

Just over seven minutes into the game the Hurricanes got on the board first with a goal from Sergey Tolchinsky, only for Branden Troock to tie up the game 14 seconds later.

Cole Ully, would put the Stars in front with a goal just under the ten minute mark. You can see the goal online here.

Things would get a little wilder for both teams in the second period as they each scored a pair of goals.

The Hurricanes would be the first to strike as Roland McKeown got an unassisted goal just over a minute and a half into the second period.

Brett Pollock would get a pair of goals in the middle of the period to give the Stars a two goal lead. The first came on the powerplay. You can see highlights of one of Pollock's goals here.

Brett Pesce would stop all hope of the Stars winning this one in regulation however. He scored a pair of goals to tie the game up and send it to over time.

Cole Ully had a chance to put the Stars ahead with 11 seconds remaining in the third period but it wasn't to be.

The overtime period was played in the style that we will be seeing in the NHL next year, a five minute 3-on-3 overtime period.

The Hurricanes prospects managed to get the game winning goal, winning 5-4.

Whilst it was a disappointing loss the coach, Derek Laxdal, was generally pleased with how the team played. He spoke with Mark Stepneski after the game and you can read his comments here.

Radek Faksa was held out of the game but will be playing their next game. In his absence defenseman Stephen Johns was given the C.
