The Dallas Stars became the first team in the NHL to surrender 100 goals Tuesday night in their 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
That’s their 10th loss in 10 tries against Central Division opponents, by the way.
It’s also their 11th loss at home, which leads the league.
They’ve now allowed at least five goals in five of their last six games, punctuating a stretch now in which they’ve been scored on 45 times in 11 contests- 4.09 GA/G in that span, extending their lead in the category over the rest of the league.
So those are some ugly numbers… What was I saying?
Right. The game. The game…
The Winnipeg Jets jumped all over the Stars early, taking a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard and a 6-0 lead in shots before the Stars even got their first bid toward Michael Hutchinson 8:36 into the game.
And so the game went.
Sure, Dallas tied it at 2-2, seemingly in pretty good shape 24 minutes into this one, but quality was never equitable.
The shots evened up, but this time were not any kind of a good measure of puck possession. The Jets’ chances were of high-quality. The Stars’ were anything but. Winnipeg used tremendous foot-speed and tenacity to win puck battles and races, turning the Stars over and countering when the opportunity presented itself.
The result? The Stars couldn’t get out of their zone clean, as has so often been the story this year. Repeated defensive-zone turnovers led to the second and third goals. Sloppy play and an effort that just didn’t match Winnipeg’s led to the fifth- A shorthanded tally.
Adam Pardy had an assist. Need I go on?
The bright spots? Well…Tyler Seguin continues to score every single night, and Antoine Roussel put on in while facing away from the net… On his stomach…. on his backhand. That was pretty great.
That’s pretty much it.
The loss buries the Stars 10 points behind these Jets now, while Minnesota won in Long Island, The Predators lead the Avs as I type, and the Blackhawks won their seventh in a row.
And they get three days to stew on this one, before the Devils come Saturday- Not much better at 27 points, but not so leaky.
Poor zone exits. Lack of poise. Goaltending that’s not where it needs to be. A fast team that looks anything but. The beat goes on for the 2014-2015 Dallas Stars, and Lindy Ruff’s options on rearranging the deck chairs wane by each gutting loss.
The building was nearly empty as the final horn blew, and so too are we nearly void of things to say about this thing. Hang in there…
