Dallas Stars Daily Links: Failure
Despite playing an overall solid game last night, the Stars failed to secure the win. Plus, the latest news on Kyle Beach and the Chicago Blackhawks and more.
The Dallas Stars largely outplayed the Vegas Golden Knights last night, outshooting them 34-21 over the course of the game. However, they ultimately lost 3-2 in overtime, unable to get more than a couple goals past backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit:
“They came on hard in the third, we battled back... but it was one of those nights where the puck just wouldn’t go in,” [head coach Rick] Bowness said. “At least we put a lot more shots on the net and we had a lot more scoring opportunities, so that’s the good news. It’s disappointing to lose that point, but we certainly did a lot of good things.”
That optimism seemed to be the prevailing opinion around the Stars in their post game press conference. The Stars have yet to win a game in regulation, but they believe they’re on the right track for success:
“You know, goals are hard to come by in this league,” [Luke] Glendening said. “There’s going to be a lot of tight games, and we’ll just continue to work on that and keep getting better.”
...
“We want to build on tonight, for sure,” Bowness said. “Offensively, that’s the best game we played. Zone time and quality chances were clearly on our side. The puck’s got to go in here at some point, so we’ve just got to stay with it.”

Sean Shapiro was back in Dallas for a brief visit, and decided to help out Saad Yousuf with a recap for old times’ sake:

They still lost, but maybe good things happen to the Stars with players from other Dallas teams visit?

Around the League
Speaking of a lack of regulation wins, the Chicago Blackhawks have still yet to win a single game after their 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. [Pension Plan Puppets]
Perhaps it’s long overdue karma. In the latest news regarding the sexual assault case, John Doe has come out and identified himself as former Chicago first round pick Kyle Beach:
Kyle Beach, John Doe in the Blackhawks investigation, talks to @rwesthead about how his NHL experience 'changed forever,’ his reaction to the findings, and support for other victims of sexual assault.

In his interview... well, Mark Lazerus says it best:
Kyle Beach's courage and humanity is in sharp contrast with the craven men who failed him.

And in case you think the people in power have learned their lesson: John Quenneville was allowed to coach last night despite a pending hearing with league commissioner Gary Bettman, and then this:
The Hockey News' @StevenEllisTHN reports Bill Guerin is likely to replace Stan Bowman as US Olympic team GM & says Guerin cleared of allegedly covering up sexual abuse.

How is this possible?
Erin Skalde filed US SafeSport complaint Oct. 5. She hasn't even been interviewed yet. https://t.co/SopI71NkK5
Despite what the headline might imply, Jonathan Toews did, uhh, not say the right things last night:

Don Fehr’s words rang a bit hollow as well, in my opinion:
"There is no doubt that the system failed to support him in his time of need, and we are part of that system,"

NHLPA executive director Don Fehr says his organization should have done more to protect Kyle Beach.https://t.co/z24SaKo8gz
Drew Doughty will continue to miss time as a result of his collision with Jani Hakanpää:

Jonathan Drouin has told reporters that Shea Weber has essentially retired:
There is a big difference between being retired and being "basically" retired, and the Canadiens' Shea Weber falls in the latter category.
— The Athletic NHL (@TheAthleticNHL) October 27, 2021
The time has come to accept Weber’s reality being said out loud.

Finally, it’s taken a while, but the Detroit Red Wings are finally on the upswing:
The @DetroitRedWings 'Yzerplan' rebuild has been long, frustrating and painful. And it might finally be paying off.
