Another hip surgery will keep Tyler Seguin out of the lineup until at least the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Seguinlightenment is officially on hold as of this morning. As it turns out, Tyler Seguin’s lower-body injury is going to need a lot more than a little rest.
The Dallas Stars have announced that the 32-year-old forward will require surgery on his left hip, to take place tomorrow, and that his recovery will take at least four to six months. Here’s the official statement atrributed to GM Jim Nill:
The Dallas Morning News staff has put together a breaking news story on Seguin’s upcoming procedure:
According to the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, femoroacetabular impingement, or FAI, is a condition in which extra bone grows along one or both of the bones that form the hip joint — giving the bones an irregular shape. Because the bones do not fit together perfectly, they rub against each other during movement. Over time this friction can damage the joint, causing pain and limiting activity.
The injury is a difficult blow for the veteran, who opened the season strong with 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 19 games played. Dallas had placed Seguin on IR on Tuesday, marking his latest absence from the lineup.
The DMN will update this story as more details become available. [SportsDayDFW]

What just happened in the MurderDeathKill Division? Let’s survey:
- Former Star Scott Wedgewood came in late and stopped 22 shots to seal the Colorado Avalanche’s “crazy” 5-4 comeback against the Buffalo Sabres. [The Denver Post]
- Kirill Kaprizov was the overtime hero for the Minnesota Wild’s fourth straight win, a 3-2 decision over the Vancouver Canucks. [NHL]
- And, in Central-on-Central violence, Jim Montgomery’s St. Louis Blues laid a 4-1 hurting on the suddenly human-looking Winnipeg Jets. [NHL]
