Dallas Stars Daily Links: Not So Top Gun
Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn have struggled to score so far this season. Plus, interviews from yesterday’s loss, Don Cherry makes headlines with some insensitive remarks, and more.
Many things could be said about yesterday’s overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets. But it seems that the takeaway that has stuck most is that the Dallas Stars need more from Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn:
“I don’t think they’re driving pucks too often,” [Jim] Montgomery said. “In general, our team, not driving pucks to hard areas enough... You need your No. 1 center, you need your No. 1 left winger to step up and do more.”
Seguin is tied for first on the team for scoring, but that’s just 11 points in 18 games. Benn meanwhile has just 6 points, though the Stars captain is trying to keep his chin up:
“We believe that with our system, we’re going to get chances,” Benn said. “Haven’t been successful just because we’ve been lucky as of late. It’s because we believe in what we’re doing. Just got to stick with that.”

Here’s Jim Montgomery on how the Stars played:
"Good point in the sense that a lot of people played the right way. Bad point that you give up a 2-1 lead going into the third."

Around the League
Only one other Central division team played last night, as Robin Lehner made 53 saves to give the Chicago Blackhawks a narrow 5-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs:

Perhaps the Maple Leafs would have won had they not been missing Mitch Marner, who looked to be out for a month plus:

Marner is expected to be out of the lineup for a minimum of 4 weeks, at which point he will be reassessed by the @MapleLeafs medical staff. #LeafsForever
