Dallas Stars Daley Links: Trade Recap Edition

As you may have noticed, the Stars sent Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt to Chicago for Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns. Read up on what everyone's saying about the trade.

Just as we resigned ourselves to a quiet offseason, Jim Nill delivered. In what's becoming the annual Dallas Stars Blockbuster Trade of the Summer, Dallas sent Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt to Chicago for Patrick Sharp and prospect Stephen Johns. The Stars will retain half of Garbutt's salary, and you can see how all of this affects the cap situation right over here.

So what's left to do now that you've gotten over the initial shock? Catch up on what everyone else thinks of the trade, of course.

Mike Heika starts us off, first with a look at Sharp's "Stanley Cup Swagger," and then with a breakdown of how the forward feels about his impending debut in Victory Green.

First things first — Patrick Sharp didn't want to leave Chicago. He loves it there, he won three Stanley Cups there, he became a part of the city's heartbeat.

But if you peel away all of that, Sharp to Dallas is a move that could really work for the player and his new team. Sharp is a goal-scoring winger who plays a solid two-way game and can help everyone from young Val Nichushkin to veteran Jason Spezza handle the pressure of the playoffs.

Sharp had this to say about his familiarity with the team and its players.

"I've played with Jamie (Benn) at the Olympics and World Championships. Jason Spezza and I have representatives with the same agency, so we've been in touch. Antti Niemi is there now," Sharp said. "I can just tell you that playing against the Stars, they're very tough to play against and they're dangerous in a lot of ways. To be able to go there is exciting for me." [DMN]

Blackhawks beat writer Mark Lazerus, however, was slightly less positive about the outcome for Chicago.

While Sharp is (obviously) the big name in the trade, Johns' inclusion in the deal has drawn a lot of positive feedback.

If nothing else, the defenseman himself has a good attitude about heading to the Lone Star State.

Sure, it remains to be seen how the whole defense situation is going to play out, but if nothing else, Stars hockey is gonna be fun hockey, right?
