Rumors have been swirling about a potential trade for Finnish superstar Mikko Rantanen, but apparently the Dalla Stars and Rantanen cannot comes to terms on a contract extension. Can they come to an agreement before 2 pm CT? An article in The Dallas Morning News covers the Stars’ link to Rantanen, along with the other teams pursuing him.
Acquiring Rantanen would be adding even more proven talent to an already strong Stars offense, thus putting less pressure on the defense given our scoring ability. According to the article, other teams that are in pursuit are the Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs. Even if the Stars fail to acquire Rantanen, it will be interesting to see what they do given their cap flexibility this season.

Around The Central
Quite a bit of high-stakes action for the Central Division tonight, mainly concerning the second wild card spot that is still wide open. I don’t like drama, but I make an exception for hockey!
- The Winnipeg Jets continue their East Coast trip in Newark tonight as they face off against a very banged up Devils squad who are 4-6 over their last ten games.
- The Chicago Blackhawks host a hot Utah Hockey Club who are trying to stay alive in a very tight wild card race for the second slot.
- The Minnesota Wild take a trip north of the border tonight to skate with the Vancouver Canucks. This is a big game for both teams; the Wild are trying to hold onto their #3 spot in the Central while the Canucks are trying to slide into the second wild card slot.
- The St. Louis Blues will be shaving ice with the Anaheim Ducks as they also pursue the second wild card slot.
