Dallas Stars Daily Links: The Tornado Aftermath
Ben Bishop and Tyler Seguin both had property damaged in the recent tornado that hit Dallas, but will both be fine. Plus, the Stars beat the Senators last night for Win #3, John Carlson’s Norris odds, and more.
Ben Bishop and his family had quite the scare Sunday evening when a tornado touched down close to their house. The Dallas Stars goaltender took shelter in a bathroom along with his wife and son as debris began to hit their home, breaking windows among other damages.
Thankfully, the ordeal only lasted a few seconds, although the house is still in rough shape. The Bishops will be spending the next few weeks with captain Jamie Benn, who stepped immediately to help our his teammate and his family:
“I told him there were some windows broken and whatnot, then my phone died,” Bishop said. “Forty-five minutes later, Jamie was at my door.”
Bishop wasn’t the only player affected by the tornado — Tyler Seguin had a house that was severely damaged, but thankfully he no longer lives there. But the whole experience has left quite the impression on Seguin:
“At the end of the day, it puts life into perspective,” Seguin said. “It’s not tough for me, just because I’m not going through what other families are going through — the families that have lost their homes, aren’t in another home, had to find shelter last night or, the worst-case scenario, are injured or worse. For me, talk to insurance, all of that stuff, that’s nothing compared to what some other people have to go through, and I’m praying for them.”

It’s worth remembering that just because players are teammates doesn’t mean they aren’t competitors too:

Should Stars fans still be worried (yes), or should they just R-E-L-A-X (no)? Down Goes Brown discusses that and more in his most recent power rankings:
Last time: It's the weekend power rankings, in which a new team takes over the two-spot, last year's Blues weren't as bad as you think, and I'm still standing by the Stars (nor now). https://t.co/g2oBBagucm pic.twitter.com/aa08Dcqi4v

John Carlson is a well respected defenseman who has never won the Norris Trophy before, plus he’s off to a hot start. So yeah, this would be a yes:
John Carlson tied a record held by Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey and is leading the league in scoring after 10 games. It's still early, but could this the season Carlson's offense finally scores his way to a Norris Trophy?@THNJaredClinton with more:https://t.co/A1ewcz1e0c

Finally, maybe this uptick of shot-blocking injuries will finally convince coaches to not treat blocked shots as the holy grail of defense:
