Dallas Stars Daily Links: Thomas Harley’s Next Big Opportunity

The upcoming World Juniors will provide Harley a chance to shine on an international stage. Plus, Roope Hintz gets a new deal, bubbles come to junior hockey, and more.

The next month signals a huge opportunity for Dallas Stars prospect Thomas Harley. He has a chance to improve upon his performance last year in training camp, and earn a starting role on a great team who is poised to make a deep run and win a championship.

I’m talking, of course, about Team Canada in the 2020 World Juniors.

Harley failed to make the team last year, but he’s confident that his experiences from that training camp and the year since will make a difference this time around:

“I got invited because I can get up in the rush, create offense in transition and in the offensive end and then play shutdown (defense) as well. I didn’t do that. I want to build off of last year and the experiences I got at the camp and make the team this year, play a big role and win the gold medal.”

Should Harley make the team, it would in a way serve as an extended audition for an NHL roster spot with Dallas. But while Harley would love to be in Victory Green this upcoming season, he’d still be excited to return to the Mississauga Steelheads in the OHL:

“I’m going to try my hardest to make the team (in Dallas),” Harley said. “If not, it’ll be my last year in the OHL, and I think we have a great shot to make a run at the league title this year, so that’s my hope.”
