Dallas Stars Daily Links: Stars End 2015 With a Bang, Take Down Predators 5-1

The Stars didn’t go quietly into the new year, instead ending 2015 with a 5-1 win over the Predators—that’s their 28th of the season, if you care about things like that. As always, Mike Heika had plenty to say about the game and emphasized the importance of the Stars’ ability to rebound from losses.

The Stars seem to love being challenged this season.

After a 6-3 loss in Columbus on Tuesday, Dallas came up with a strong statement game on New Year’s Eve, beating Nashville 5-1 and keeping alive its run of not losing consecutive games this season.

It’s kind of a big thing.

Tyler Seguin also offered his take on the team’s strong start and impressive resilience.

“Our talk in training camp was how we were going to start the year, how we were going to be at home, and how we were going to be against our own division,” Seguin said. “We have a long way to go, but in those statement games or playoff-type games, we’ve played really well. So, we’re going to keep that consistent and keep building.”

Welcome to the first dose of daily links in 2016! I hope everyone had a great time ringing in the New Year last night.

But last night’s win wasn’t without its hiccups.

Puck Daddy’s Josh Cooper explores Jamie Benn’s rise to the top of the league and why he’s one of the NHL’s best players. One scout had this to say on why he’d take the Dallas captain over Patrick Kane.

“I think Benn’s all-around game, the offense, the defense and then you mix in the toughness as well, I don’t think you’re putting Kane out there for a defensive faceoff with a one-goal lead with 30 seconds to go in Game 7 whereas you would put Benn out there,” he said. “So if I had to start a team right now I think for the all-around player and what he brings I would take Benn.”

But despite the success that Jamie Benn is enjoying, older brother Jordie Benn has never felt like the second fiddle.

“Everyone asks, ‘Are you jealous? Is there conflict between you two?’ And it’s just not the person I am,” Jordie says. “I want him to succeed to the best of his ability every night, and to go as far as he can in this league.”

Congratulations are in order for Shane Doan.

Speaking of Doan… The Arizona captain scored a hat trick to little fanfare during a loss to Chicago the other night, so the fans tacked on an extra celebration yesterday.
