Dallas Stars Daily Links: Shootouts Suck
We all agree on that, right? Plus, highlights from last night’s loss, a playoff race update, and more.
Well, last night’s loss to the Vancouver Canucks was disappointing. Even more so since it went to a shootout, which I might have jinxed the Dallas Stars into last Friday. Sorry about that, everyone. Won’t happen again. (Editor: I told you, Tyler. Why does no one ever listen to the editor?)
Anyways, let’s just jump into the fun stuff about the game, shall we? First up is this beautiful sequence between Valeri Nichushkin and Jamie Benn:

Next is Taylor Fedun playing the part of the hero and making sure the Stars got at least a point:

And then the coin flip happened. Even though most people don’t like it, including Tyler Seguin:

Here’s what Jim Montgomery had to say about the game:

Another performance from Anton Khudobin with only two goals, and somehow yet another loss:

Stars Stories
You know what sucks more than the shootout? Antoine Roussel got injured right before his return to Dallas:
Thanks everyone for the get well wishes! Means a lot to me! Would of loved to play today! That date was circle in my calendar for a long long time!!! Good luck to the boys today #SeeYouNextYear #canucks #stars pic.twitter.com/bWgswa7iwT

I say this a lot, but I absolutely love the Stars’ 2017 draft. Congratulations to Jason Robertson:
Jason Robertson (DAL) is officially the OHL scoring champion with 117 points this season. This is the third time in the last four seasons the OHL has been led by an American (Alex DeBrincat in 2016-17, Kevin Labanc in 2015-16).

Central Census
Man, it was not a good time to be a Central team heading into overtime yesterday:
- Like the Stars, the St. Louis Blues also fell in the shootout, losing 4-3 to the Buffalo Sabres. [Die by the Blade]
- The Minnesota Wild didn’t even make it to the coin flip, losing 3-2 to the New York Islanders in overtime. [Lighthouse Hockey]
- Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche did the smart thing and avoided the the extra inning altogether, instead shutting out the New Jersey Devils 3-0. [Mile High Hockey]/
Couple that all with an Arizona Coyotes overtime loss on Saturday, and you get this:
Western wildcard update: The NHL gave two points to the Avalanche, who won, and four total points to the four teams ahead of them, who all lost.

Hey, it looks like when you give a former third overall pick decent minutes and good linemates, they actually produce. Imagine that:

From Friday, Down Goes Brown breaks down why increased scoring doesn’t mean we’re out of the “Dead Puck Era”:
