Dallas Stars Daily Links: Is Jake Oettinger For Real?

Jake Oettinger may be ready for the NHL. Is the NHL ready for him?

The Dallas Morning News’ Matthew DeFranks zoomed in on the Otter commentary after last night’s shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning – especially head coach Rick Bowness’ lavish praise:

“That game was over in the first period without Jake,” Bowness said. “Love his composure, love his compete. He’s getting better every game. He battled hard tonight.”…

“He’s a stud,” [captain Jamie] Benn said. “We don’t even get to where we got to without him. Played a great game, we’re asking a lot of him and he’s definitely stepping up. Just can’t say enough good things about him.”

And it’s interesting to note the example Bowness has chosen of Otter’s possible ceiling:

Bowness, meanwhile, sees a bit of Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy in the 22-year-old Oettinger.

“Imagine what Jake’s going to be in six, seven years,” Bowness said. “He’ll be right there [by Vasilevskiy].”

Stars Stuff

The Stars lost in the shootout, but least Jamie Benn got off the schneid at an opportune moment.

And how much have you missed Alexander Radulov? Be specific.

After enduring consecutive shutouts at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning, a shootout loss does seem like progress.
