Dallas Stars Daily Links: A Win In Calgary, The Loss Of Bishop, And The Final Push

The Dallas Stars won an ugly game against the Calgary Flames last night, made even uglier as they lost Ben Bishop to another injury.

Sean Shapiro points out this statistic for those who worry about a first-round sweep by a Western Conference powerhouse:

With back-to-back wins against the Flames and Winnipeg Jets, the Stars finished the season 6-1-0 against the two divisional leaders in the Western Conference.

While they wouldn’t be favored, it certainly is a good sign for the Stars when they in all likelihood meet the Jets or Flames in the first round.

Jason Spezza drew back in due to Brett Ritchie’s sore hand, and the results indicate he should play more:

Spezza ended up playing the role you would have expected for a fourth-liner who had recently been scratched. He had only 17 shifts for 8:36 of ice time and was called for interference in the second period.

But in his limited time he had three shots on goal and four total attempts. He also won 64 percent of his faceoffs. With back-to-back games and a trip to Edmonton, it might behoove the Stars’ coaching staff to trust him a bit more against the Oilers.
