It’s always a good time to be a Dallas Stars fan. But these days, the good times are…well, they’re pretty darn good, mostly. And when you take a look at the DFW area’s other big teams, those good times seem especially sweet.

The Dallas Morning News‘ Lia Assimakopoulos is doing her part to help Mavericks and Cowboys fans heal their major-league sports wounds. Her latest article outlines three big reasons to start rooting for the Stars with all deliberate speed. Here’s a sample:

Imagine if the Mavericks traded for Anthony Davis without giving up Luka Doncic. That’s the best way to describe what Stars GM Jim Nill and his staff did ahead of the NHL trade deadline Friday….

Rantanen was a long-time rival of the Stars, playing 9.5 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche before he was blindsided in a trade in late January that sent him to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Finnish forward said it wasn’t the right fit, and he didn’t plan to re-sign with Carolina when his contract expired in the offseason, so the Hurricanes ultimately traded him before the March 7 deadline. …The trade improved Dallas’ Stanley Cup odds to the best in the NHL at +600.

Not enough for you? Consider that the Stars are sitting among the superpowers in the Western Conference even after two of their elite players suffered injuries that essentially ended their regular season:

The Stars have had such success even without two key players battling long-term injuries. Forward Tyler Seguin, who was part of Dallas’ hottest line in the first few months of the season, had hip surgery in early December and was ruled out for four to six months. Defenseman Miro Heiskanen, a former No. 3 overall pick in the NHL draft and arguably Dallas’ best player, suffered a knee injury on Jan. 28 and had surgery.

Both players are expected to return either late in the regular season or early in the playoffs, meaning this skilled Stars team could reach another level with them back in the lineup.

There’s much more at Lia’s usual digs. [SportsDayDFW]

As a ski-jumping fan, I’m accustomed to thinking of this as the Telemark landing. I’m sure someone somewhere has invented a hockey name for it…? Anyway, enjoy Moose’s first goal in Victory Green.

Leave it to Down Goes Brown to know this extremely important piece of trivia.

In On The #Kill Taker

It’s a quiet Monday in the NHL, but half of all games being played tonight involve at least one Cellblock Central team:

  • Double your pleasure, double your fun: The Colorado Avalanche welcome the Chicago Blackhawks into Ball Arena at 8 p.m. CT. [LIVE STATS]
  • And if that doesn’t go far enough past your bedtime, Utah Hockey Club takes on the Toronto Maple Leafs in Delta Center at 9 p.m. CT. [LIVE STATS]

ICYMI, Logan Stankoven got the game-winning goal in his first game with the Carolina Hurricanes. NO ONE CRIES, YOU HEAR ME?

So everything’s settled now that the NHL trade deadline has passed, right? Stephen Meserve says, “Not so fast.”
