Dallas Stars Daily Links: What’s Next for Dickinson?
The forward’s arbitration case is set for July 20, but don’t be surprised if a deal is signed before then. Plus, the Stars re-sign Dillon Heatherington, the Blackhawks make a trade, and more.
Jason Dickinson is heading towards arbitration, with his hearing set for July 20. But don’t be alarmed — negotiations with the Dallas Stars are going well. Dickinson and his agent are just using as much leverage as they can in:
With an early deadline to apply for player-elected arbitration, players and agents have to take full advantage of the system and file, even if negotiations are going well. Having talked to both sides, both Dickinson’s agent and Stars general manager Jim Nill, things are on the right track at the moment. Dickinson would do himself a disservice if he didn’t file; make sure you have a back-up plan until Plan A is set in stone.
Arbitration cases rarely make it to the actual hearing — typically both sides come to an agreement beforehand. Last year, Gemel Smith was one of the few players who did, and the Stars ended up placing him on waivers just a couple of months into the season. But again, don’t be alarmed:
Dickinson’s case is different than Smith’s and I think it’s important to make that clear. While Smith was expected to compete for a roster spot in Dallas, Dickinson is and has been part of Nill’s long-term plan for several years.

If I wanted to, I could totally lift as much as Mattias Janmark. I just don’t want to.
Seven. Hundred. Pounds.
