Dallas Stars Daily Links: Goaltending Depth
After re-signing with the Stars, Landon Bow will be continue battling Colton Point for the second AHL spot. Plus, salary cap woes, a third jersey teaser, and more.
The Dallas Stars are very fortunate when it comes to their current goaltending group. Ben Bishop and Anton Khudobin are arguably the best goaltending tandem in the NHL, while Jake Oettinger is already knocking on the door.
But what about the rest of the depth chart? Currently, the No. 4 spot belongs to Landon Bow, who recently re-signed with the Stars as a UFA after they chose not to tender his qualifying offer. Bow could have gone elsewhere, but he ultimately decided to stay in Dallas:
“I’m comfortable with everybody in the organization, they know me and I know them. That’s always a nice thing,” Bow said. “After working with everybody for the two months in the bubble, I got more comfortable with everybody in the organization. It feels like a good fit.”
Then there’s Colton Point, who has came out of college with bright prospects but has had a rough start to his professional career. Assuming they play this year, Texas Stars General Manager Scott White believes it’s time for Colton Point to step up to the plate and cement himself on the AHL roster:
“Yeah, we want to see Colton grab something but he’s got to earn it, too,” White said. “Quite frankly, the same goes for Landon. If Jake’s down there, he’s got the upper hand, for sure, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. And then those other guys have got to push and whoever plays better is going to have that time.”
