We have less than 48 hours left, and obviously everyone is buzzing about the trade deadline looming. I’m no different, but I fall into the depth defense or nothing camp. What say you? A big reason for this is that I believe between the move we already made for Mikael Granlund, and the return of Tyler Seguin, we just might be pretty set in the forward department.
Of course you’re never worse adding a guy like Mikko Rantanen, but at what cost? Anyone other than Rantanen and I’m wondering, where would you even slot them in? I guess I just feel good about our guys.
Speaking of the deadline, and of Granlund and Cody Ceci in particular, I came across this article earlier in the week from Sean Shapiro highlighting something about the deadline we don’t often think about – the human element.
The Stars traded for Mikael Granlund on February 1 … Granlund flew to Dallas, played in a home game the following day against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and then went 23 days before setting foot in Texas again.
It was a side effect of the timing of the trade. The Stars had a six-game road trip sandwiched around the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off break …
Crazy to think Granlund’s been a part of the team over a month now, and just this week is the first opportunity we’ve had to really see him in person. But even more than that, it’s been his first opportunity to settle into life in Dallas. The human element is important…
With the March 7 trade deadline looming, it’s something that Stars general manager Jim Nill thinks about on a daily basis. He’s trying to build the best hockey team, one that can win the Stanley Cup, while also dealing with 23 players and their attached lives.
“That’s a big part of it,” Nill says. “These guys all have lives and many have families. How does someone fit, not just on the ice, but off? How do they feel comfortable? They play a game, and the game has been great to them, but it’s impossible to not think about the human. You have to.”
Naturally, I want to see the Stars get ALL the best players. I do really like the chemistry in this locker room though. I hope we can add to that even more.

Dallas Stars Stuff
I was in the house for the Stars win on Tuesday. Looked at my son with a face-off and 13 seconds left and said…”I guess we’re getting overtime.” He said, “unless something crazy happens!” Meet Thomas Harley – the deliverer of crazy.

Dallas' third straight win! pic.twitter.com/YsBlOajP1u
Also worth mentioning is Ilya Lyubushkin. Boosh has been criminally underrated so far this season, and kudos to him for a little slice of the scoresheet.
Ilya Lyubushkin having his 1st goal with the Stars might be one of my favorite moments so far this season.

Stuck in the Central with You
The Blackhawks lost and the Blues won last night, and I can’t seem to be bothered to care more than I do about either of those. More important games are coming tonight. Along with the Stars at home against the Calgary Flames, here’s what’s on the docket:
- The suddenly vulnerable Winnipeg Jets will try to get their positive streak back on as they hit the road against the Flyers. [PREVIEW]
- The Avalanche host the Sharks as they continue to fight Minnesota for the third slot in the Central. [PREVIEW]
- Utah HC is in Detroit still battling, hoping the long break between games will serve them well for a run. [PREVIEW]
- The Predators really just want the season to end already, but if it can’t, they’ll face the Kraken anyway tonight. [PREVIEW]
