Dallas Stars Daily Links: Ghosts of Game 7s Past

Recent history has not been kind to the Stars in Game 7s. Plus, Florida has a new General Manager, taking a closer look at the officiating this postseason, and more.

The Dallas Stars will be playing a Game 7 against the Colorado Avalanche in the second round.

That fact alone should terrify most Stars fans. After all, Game 7s haven’t been kind to them since the turn of the century:

The Stars have never blown a 3-1 series lead since the franchise moved to Dallas, but they’ve also had some poor Game 7 results since the glory years of the late ’90s and early 2000s faded away.

The Stars have lost their past three Game 7s. The last win came in 2000 when they beat the Avalanche to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

Most fans will key in on the Stars’ most recent two Game 7s, which both came at the hands of the St. Louis Blues (in the second round) in what were excruciating losses. Five players on the current Stars roster were on both of those teams, so there’s a strong desire to flip the script:

“We’ve been (in this spot) two times prior to this season, and we’ve gotten really close, and I think both of those years we’ve felt like we had a really good shot, as we do this year,” [Mattias] Janmark said. “We are still early on here, but we’ve got to take that next step … we have an opportunity to get over that, and I think that could rebirth a little of that if you can get over that and let go of that history.”
