Ben Bishop’s scoreless streak might be over, but at least the Dallas Stars won last night! Those two points put the team up five ahead of the Minnesota Wild, who currently sit in ninth place in the Western Conference, with a game in hand.
Of course, a lot can happen in two weeks, but it’s reasonable to be optimistic about the Stars returning to the Stanley Cup playoffs this year. While I’m sure everyone — myself included — is still bummed about this team not being a bona fide Cup Contender by now, it’s okay to be happy about (probably) seeing some Stars playoff hockey again.
Anyways, let’s get onto the highlights, shall we? First up is Jamie Benn and the top trio working some magic:

In the second period, John Klingberg would get the go-ahead goal with this beauty:

Halfway through the final frame, Benn and Alexander Radulov would connect again to give Dallas the eventual game winner:

Finally, here’s the bizarro empty net goal courtesy of Radulov (and Mike Hoffman):
Here’s head coach Jim Montgomery on the win:

He may not have scored, but Tyler Seguin’s fingerprints were all over the Stars’ four tallies:

Finally, Bishop opens up about his shutout streak now that it’s finally come to an end:

Stars Stories
The Stars signed some NCAA prospects to their Entry-Level Contracts yesterday, including former draft picks Rhett Gardner and Joseph Cecconi:
You’re focused on what’s going to happen in a few weeks, but things are looking pretty good as well a few years down the road.
The Stars are adding young scorers to their lineup — and the results could be seen fairly quickly at the AHL level. https://t.co/LXGHbQRWxp

Speaking of prospects, Josh Lile breaks down some of the Stars’ struggles with player development:

We’ll be getting more Winter Classic news during a press conference later today, and when they inevitably don’t show jersey designs, I will riot:
The NHL will hold a 2020 Winter Classic press conference with the Stars and Predators tomorrow at 2:00 PM at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas.
The press conference will be broadcast on @FOXSportsSW and streamed live on FOX Sports GO. https://t.co/UMMQ4GrQ9v

Central Census
It was a good night to be in the Central. Unless you were the Wild, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯
- The Nashville Predators inched closer to officially securing a playoff spot, thanks to a 3-0 win over the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs. [On the Forecheck]
- The Stars could have overtaken the St. Louis Blues for 3rd in the division last night. The Blues decided to ruin that by dismantling the Edmonton Oilers 7-2. [Copper and Blue]
- Finally the Minnesota Wild failed to climb back into the playoff spot, as the Colorado Avalanche beat their division rival 3-1. [Mile High Hockey]/
Again, Minnesota is 9th in the Western Conference right now. So looking pretty nice:

DownGoesBrown offers what optimism he can for playoff bubble teams currently on the outside looking in:

Elias Pettersson is going to win the Calder, but does he need to pack a broom for the NHL Awards ceremony?

Finally, Alexander Ovechckin is amazing. Can you imagine what his goal-totals would be if he played back in the 70’s or 80’s?
