Dallas Stars Daily Links: Don’t Forget to Have Patience and Perspective, Says Mike Heika

When the Dallas Stars lose—or when any team you love loses, for that matter—it’s easy to be disappointed, or angry, or that person on Twitter who’s maybe overreacting. (Maybe.) We’ve all been there. But it’s important that when those defeats inevitably arrive, we remember to have some perspective and patience. Mike Heika tells us why.

Jamie Benn dances in shorthanded, and we want to use the highlight as reason he should be this year’s Hart Trophy winner. Taylor Hall _ the very talented first overall pick in 2010_ dances Patrik Nemeth, and we want to use the highlight as a reason Nemeth should come out of the lineup. I get it, perspective means everything, but it’s not the worst idea to see things through someone else’s eyes.

After all, Heika says, there’s not that much of a difference between this year’s team and last year’s, but it’s that “little bit” that’s meant a franchise-best start to the season.

That’s where this thing comes full circle. They do hear your calls, they do understand the urgency, you aren’t pushing them harder than they are pushing themselves. It’s just that they are looking at this picture in bigger terms…more than just one game or one play.

And that’s why they can appreciate a game like Friday’s.
