Dallas Stars Daily Links: California Woes
The California teams just haven’t been very nice to the Stars this road trip. Plus Olympic updates, trade deadline speculation, and a whole lot more.
Man, that was rough. The Dallas Stars came up short yet again in their second game in California, getting blanked by the Anaheim Ducks 2-0.
Hopefully, the team turns things around tomorrow in Los Angeles. I’m not sure I can handle another loss like these.
No goal clips this time (for obvious reasons), so let’s just jump to the post-game interviews. Here’s John Klingberg sticking up for his goalie:
“You can’t blame Bish for that (goal), he was coming out and the puck took a weird bounce.” pic.twitter.com/q05WlGaaFq

Speaking of which, here’s Ben Bishop:
“A good thing is that we have another game tomorrow, so we have to put this behind us.” pic.twitter.com/HbifI6PSW8

...and the captain, Jamie Benn:
"I think for the most part, we played alright. Our 5-on-3 has to get it done. That was the deciding factor tonight." pic.twitter.com/iFdYCHQNTI

Well, this definitely doesn’t make me feel better:
The 24 third period shots by Dallas were their most taken in any period in @DallasStars history.

Looks like Martin Hanzal will definitely be out tomorrow:
Hitchcock said Martin Hanzal is headed back to Dallas to get evaluated. An update is expected in a couple of days.

Stars Stories
As Gemel Smith continues to deal with the healthy scratches, Alexander Radulov has emerged to help the young forward fight through it. [The Athletic]
Scott Burnside sat down with Nick Ritchie, brother of Stars’ forward Brett Ritchie, before the game last night:

It seems that the Stars have finally come to grips with Martin Hanzal’s constant injuries:

Winter Olympics Update
Miro Heiskanen’s quest for an Olympic medal has ended tragically:
They had to tremble until the last minute but Canada #CAN eventually beat Finland #FIN 1-0 on Maxim Noreau's goal to make the semi-finals! Story and more photos: https://t.co/REhyo9AzVg

Heiskanen played quite a bit:
Miro Heiskanen played 19:19 - second highest on the team - in Finland's 1-0 loss to Canada in the Olympic quarterfinals today.

...but surprisingly not much towards the end:
Not sure why Finland didn’t have Heiskanen on the ice in the final minute with two OZ draws.

Finland isn’t the only team to go home empty-handed though as Sweden was upset by Germany 4-3 overtime:

And of course there’s the USA men’s team, who had lost to the Czech Republic 3-2. Greg Wyshnyski gives five reasons as to why the American’s quest for gold failed: [ESPN]
The USA women’s team, however fared much better, beating Canada 3-2 in the shootout for the gold:

That means the only hockey left is the men’s. The Olympic Athletes from Russia, who defeated Norway 6-1, will square off against the Czechs, while Canada takes on Germany. [Bracket]
Around the League
It was a very quiet night last night, with only two other NHL games being played. One of those match-ups was between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Ottawa Senators, with the Blackhawks winning 3-2 in the shootout. [Second City Hockey]
In case you thought they couldn’t get any better, the Nashville Predators might be getting another late season upgrade in addition to Mike Fisher:
Finland's Eeli Tolvanen was a breakout star at the Olympics and his story isn't over yet. The plan now is for the Predators to bring him in for the stretch run: https://t.co/R9chLmeA5n

Meanwhile, other General Managers have to actually make trades to get new players. As weird as it sounds to say it, Winnipeg Jets’ GM Kevin Cheveldayoff might be one of them. [NHL]
Speaking of GMs, Down Goes Brown takes a look at the most predictive (and annoying) soundbites that you hear from management this time of year:

One of the biggest names who might be gone by the trade deadline? Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson:

Believe it or not, not everything here is speculation, as there actually were trades yesterday:
