If someone came up to you and asked if you knew Joanne Lovato, most of you would say, “I’ve never heard of her.” What’s crazy is that although most of us are not familiar with her, she plays an integral part in not only what we see of the Dallas Stars on a day-to-day basis, but in growing our fanbase as the team continues to gain more followers.
D Magazine‘s Audrey Henvey wrote a great article introducing us to Joanne, who is the Vice President of Marketing for the Dallas Stars. According to Henvey:
“Lovato’s duties include overseeing digital advertising, growing social channel presence, and elevating sponsorships. Within six months, her role expanded to include overseeing game presentation, production, merchandise, and graphic design.”
To appeal to your fans, you have to know your fans. Based on a study she initiated, a few things were revealed about us superfans that we may not realize ourselves:
“The super fan likes to be outdoors, listens to podcasts, reads the news, and keeps an eye out for updates on Facebook. The casual fan is a different beast. They love sports and fashion. Their music taste ranges from country to hip-hop. They go to concerts at venues outside of Dallas.”
With that being said, Lovato identified these concert venues as a place to reach and attract more fans. She even went on to suggest that using player personalities, lifestyle and cultural approaches could expand the team’s footprint as well. Regardless of her marketing strategies, she vows to protect the Stars’ brand by remaining “true to who we are.”

Around The Central
Aside from our beloved Stars taking on the Winnipeg Jets, three other Central Division teams are taking the ice tonight:
- The Colorado Avalanche face off against the Calgary Flames. Colorado’s been hot, having won seven of their last ten games. Calgary is just barely holding onto the second wild card spot, so this is a big game for them.
- The Utah Hockey Club will be shaving ice with the Seattle Kraken. This is also a big game for Utah, as they are only two points behind Calgary for the second wild card spot.
- The Nashville Predators are skating with the Anaheim Ducks this evening. Both teams are well outside the playoff picture, so this game does not hold a lot of weight.

Very reasonable that Eichel breaks his own record next season…
Jack Eichel assisted on one of the @GoldenKnights two first-period goals to extend his point streak to seven games and establish a franchise mark for points in a single season.#NHLStats: https://t.co/ztPmPB60cH pic.twitter.com/OdzABNsZTp
