Dallas Stars Daily Links: Always Starry

I miss the days where a goal like this would make the water bottle fly. Bring back loose water bottles, please.

It is always easier to write these links posts after a win. I just get to sit here and be positive and accept the fact that the Dallas Stars may never lose again.

Admittedly, we’ve had a bit of an up-and-down season, but here we are still hanging in there, and somewhat quietly on an 8-game points run. That ties the longest since PDB’s been around, so hopefully we can break through that ceiling as well on Saturday.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows of course. While my demeanor tends to lean toward the positives, I don’t want to ignore the flaws in our game. And truthfully, it gives some hope that if we turn certain things around – this team could legitimately make a run. That’s where Sean Shapiro’s head is at as well….

After back-to-back trips to the Western Conference finals, the Stars are one of the NHL’s “Stanley Cup or bust teams,” and any measure of success will be determined by whether they lift the trophy for the first time since 1999.

So when they let a 2-0 lead against the Minnesota Wild evaporate into a 3-2 overtime loss or the power play goes cold—and it most definitely has—it’s easy to look for reasons why they won’t reach the ultimate goal. That’s the price of being under the “contender” microscope.

It’s a great discussion that, despite a small breakthrough lately, continues to confound us a bit. Check out more from Sean over at D Magazine.

More Dallas Stars

Thrilled for the kid on this one. It’s a birthday bing-bong for Le Bob…

Speaking of…

I’m a couple days late on this one, but it’s nice to see the guys bonding.

Elsewhere in the Central

A couple of blowouts in the Central last night, including one with implications at the top of the division:

  • The Colorado Avalanche made pretty easy work of the Minnesota Wild last night, including an incredible gaffe of a turnover right in front of the net. Ouch. Colorado wins 6-1. [RECAP]
  • The St. Louis Blues jumped out early, scoring 4 in the first against the Anaheim Ducks, and pretty much coasted from there, winning 6-2. [RECAP]

Around the NHL

We’re just about halfway through the season, and these would be the matchups if the playoffs started today. What do we think?

My second Sidney Crosby mention for the week. I promise I won’t keep doing this.

Greetings from Scenic Cedar Park and Beautiful Boise!

The Texas Stars continue to roll as well!

Well worth the watch…

Finally

While the Pens vs. Caps showdown idea is still my favorite, this will at least be interesting.
