Brenden Morrow to Make Announcement With Dallas Stars on Thursday, Reportedly to Retire

Ready for more sports tears?

Brenden Morrow, the heart and soul of the Dallas Stars for 13 seasons and team captain for seven of those seasons, appears set to announce his retirement through the Stars on Thursday.

As always, Mike Heika was the first with the news:

The Stars on Monday sent out a notice that Brenden Morrow will have an announcement Thursday regarding his future. A source said Morrow will announce his retirement at a noon press conference.

Also in that article is the fact that Morrow will be at Thursday’s home game against the Lightning to drop the puck and be honored during the contest.

According to Mark Stepneski, Morrow was attending Monday’s Stars practice.

Morrow, now 37, was drafted by the Stars 25th overall in 1997 and made an almost immediate jump to the NHL after finishing his junior career with the Portland Winter Hawks. Over that time frame, he had 243 goals, 528 points and 1203 penalty minutes in 835 games in Dallas, not to mention 78 playoff games with 17 goals and 25 assists.

Including, you know, this one:

And when that goal is shown, you know this hit is going to be part of the package as well:

That 2007-08 Stars team reached the Western Conference Finals basically via the force of Morrow’s will, and we all loved him for it.

After being traded by the Stars at 2012-13 trade deadline, Morrow played three journeyman seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he came within two games of the Stanley Cup before the Chicago Blackhawks took it from him.

Morrow has not signed with another team since his contract expired with Tampa Bay this offseason. If this is his retirement, he will finish his career with 15 NHL seasons, including 991 regular season games, 265 goals, 310 assists, and 1362 penalty minutes.
