Dallas Stars Assistant Coach James Patrick Accused of Domestic Assault

The Dallas Morning News has reported this morning that Dallas Stars assistant coach James Patrick was arrested last week on accusations of assault during a domestic dispute at his home.

According to the dispute, Patrick and his girlfriend engaged physically regarding messages on his telephone, and it appears that alcohol was also involved in the incident. Patrick allegedly shoved his girlfriend during the dispute, resulting in a minor injury and his subsequent arrest.

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill released this statement on the matter:

“We’re aware of the incident and have spoken to James regarding the matter. We’re confident that the authorities will find an appropriate resolution to the situation. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Patrick enjoyed a lengthy career as a defenseman in the NHL, spending time with the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames and finally the Buffalo Sabres. Following 20 seasons in the NHL, Patrick joined the Sabres coaching staff as an assistant in 2006, and joined head coach Lindy Ruff to Dallas in the summer of 2013.

The Stars assistant coach was instrumental this season in the development of the defensive unit and the continued development of several young defensemen.
